Friends, some of you are aware of our book Rise, Shine, Be Woke that was published recently. Well, I am now delighted to share a few flyers with you to help increase awareness of the many ways in which our PW sisters on the east coast, specifically at National Capital Presbytery, Washington D.C. are dismantling racism.
We can’t all fly out to Washington D.C. but I for one do wish I could hear two of their upcoming speakers. Dr. Catherine Meeks (Atlanta Diocese, Episcopal Church) and Dr. Ibram Kendi, have helped shape my anti-racism scholarship and activism. Even if we cannot attend, just reading the flyers and schedules is educational! Thus, I encourage you to take some prayerful moments to read and reflect. On Tuesday, September 25, starting at 1:00PM, we will be holding a compelling workshop on Engaging White Privilege in Church and Society, followed by an Open Space Panel on Confronting Racism at 4:00PM, and leading to our Stated Meeting at 6:00PM, where our business is ensconced in powerful anti-racist liturgy complete with a sermon by Dr. Catherine Meeks, E.D., of the Episcopal Diosese of Atlanta Absalom Jones Center for Racial Healing.

Then, there is our Racial Awareness Festival on October 20, 10:00AM-5:00PM. Our keynote is Dr. Ibram X. Kendi, National Book Award winner for his book Stamped from the Beginning: The History of Racist Ideas in America. He will follow his keynote with a morning workshop, among others. The event is free, and lunch is provided. The will be a book store and exhibits.

Anne, I was told that their contracts with the speakers prohibited video taping.
